North District Park

Covering an area of 8.605 hectares, North District Park is situated between Fan Ling and Sheung Shui. The park comprises two major phases dedicated to passive facilities and active facilities respectively. The area for passive facilities, also known as Phase I, includes an artificial lake with water cascades and pavilions designed in the Yangzhou style of the Qing Dynasty, and are very picturesque. Phase II provides a variety of recreational facilities including soccer-cum-handball court, basketball courts, volleyball courts and a roller skating rink.

The artificial lake in the centre of the park provides a tranquil setting for birds to rest and is an ideal location for bird-watching.
The diverse combination of plantings including Weeping Willow Tress (<i>Salix babylonica</i>), Conifer Trees and shrubs forms a pleasant arrangement providing a complementary view for appreciation from various viewpoints around the lake.
The covered walkway and pavilions provide shelter from the sun and rain. The lake pavilion provides seating for visitors to relax and enjoy views of the lake.
The structures in North District Park are designed in a Yangzhou style of the Qing Dynasty. The pavilion serves as a shelter and also a welcoming entrance to the main viewing platform next to the lake.
The water cascade is a popular spot for taking photographs. The cascade spills into the small pond below where Lotus (<i>Nymphaea tetragona</i>) can be found.

<i>Hydrangea macrophylla</i> along the pathway at the Rock Garden are bright, colourful and fragrant attracting many visitors to this part of the park.

North District Park boasts eight OVTs (Old and Valuable Trees registered with the Government). The spreading canopies of the huge Chinese Banyan Trees (<i>Ficus macrocarpa</i>) offer ample shade where people can stroll or exercise.
The large open spaces within the park allows these trees to grow to their large, mature sizes. These Chinese Banyan Trees (<i>Ficus macrocarpa</i>) are a dramatic feature in the eastern part of the park with their extensive root systems providing an organic sculptural effect in the open lawn areas.
Trunk forms of the Chinese Banyan Trees (<i>Ficus macrocarpa</i>) with their buttress roots and aggressive overlapping surface roots create a unique space for many different activities.
